Around Lake Cyohoha, in Bugesera District, we work with farmers. What we provide is storage. A harvest that can be kept does not have to be sold the day it is brought in.
Storage on the lake
Storage facilities for farmers on the shore of Lake Cyohoha, so that what they grow can be held until it is sold on their terms.
Cows, pigs, and the children
The farmers we work with are women. They keep cows and pigs alongside their fields.
Livestock give a family an income that does not depend on a single harvest, and that income is what keeps children fed and in school. The farm and the school are one system, from the lake shore to the child's plate.
